The hemp industry is growing faster than ever before. And, now we have a new cannabinoid that has caught people’s attention. Delta 8, also known as delta8 or delta-8, is short for Delta 8 Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. It’s one of many cannabinoids in the hemp plant. So, anyone who uses full spectrum CBD products is already taking in the amount that naturally occurs in the plant material. But now, delta 8 extracts are becoming a new trend in the cannabis world.
What is Delta 8?
Delta 8 is a cannabinoid that occurs in trace amounts in the hemp plant. However, companies have developed various advanced methods for extracting it and turning it into a concentrate. This allows hemp users to experience its full effects in a more potent way.
Delta 8 is, technically speaking, degraded delta 9 THC. Delta 9 THC is the psychoactive compound that determines the legal difference between marijuana and hemp. Interestingly, it’s an isomer to both delta 9 and CBD, meaning that it shares the same atoms. Delta 8 is also psychoactive, but the high produced by this form of THC is much milder than delta 9.
Further, like all cannabinoids, delta 8 interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system by binding with cannabinoid receptors in the body to regulate specific processes. More specifically, this compound binds with CB1 receptors in the nervous system. Fascinatingly, it double-binds with these receptors, which means that delta 8 may be a uniquely potent and powerful cannabinoid. It has effects on mood, and may offer other uses as well, which are currently being researched in clinical environments.
Types of Delta 8 Products
Delta 8 is isolated from the hemp plant’s chemical composition and turned into an extract that can be combined with other ingredients to produce a wide range of formulas. This process is no different than standard CBD extraction. As a result, you can find delta 8 products that are just like the CBD products that many of us take already. Companies make delta 8 vaping goods, edibles, tinctures, topicals and more.
Furthermore, a new trend is infusing standard hemp flower with delta 8 extract. This allows CBD flower products to provide a concentrated amount of delta8 along with the compounds that naturally occur in hemp.
Combining Delta 8 with CBD
A question that we’re asked frequently is whether or not it’s okay to combine delta 8 with CBD. Well, in short, the answer is yes, it’s perfectly fine. Delta 8 and CBD are both naturally occurring cannabinoids in the hemp plant, and nature therefore tells us that they are completely compatible with each other. Many people incorporate both of these compounds into their daily routine in different ways to experience unique effects.
Delta 8 and delta 9 are so similar that a standard drug test will not determine the difference. Take this into account if you are tested for your job, sports activity or something of a similar nature.
On a similar note, law enforcement drug-testing kits, which analyze confiscated materials, do not differentiate between both kinds of THC compounds, and will result in a failed test.
While delta8 may be federally legal, there are some states that have gone ahead and criminalized it specifically. These states are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, Rhode Island, and Utah. If you live in any of these states, Pure CBD Vapors cannot sell you delta 8 products.
