What is CBD oil derived from?

Production of CBD oil
Industrial production of CBD oil is done by combining the cannabinoid rich plant with other compounds like CO², butane, ethanol or olive oil etc., all of which leave their residues in the final product. The most important part of CBD oil extraction is selection of right plant for the extraction of oil. Cost of final product will depend on its potency and purity which is controllable only via oil extraction technique.
Carrier oil extraction method

CBD oil extracted by this method will contain a healthy dose of Omega rich acids and minimalistic chemical residues in the pure oil. The only drawback is the short shelf life of oil extracted in this manner though it is highly effective when taken orally or applied topically on the skin.
CO² extraction or decarboxylation method
Considered the most scientific method this is also among the cleanest techniques of extraction. Referred to as sub-critical or super critical CO² method, it uses carbon dioxide under different pressures to extract the medicinal oil. This is among the most expensive techniques of extraction due to use of hi-tech equipment that can be operated by trained personnel only. The advantage of this technique is that the end product is the purest form of CBD oil which is highly potent and free of chlorophyll. However if the heat used during extraction is too high it can damage terpenes in the oil that have therapeutic benefits and provide flavor and essence to the oil strain.
Extraction with solvents
Being a relatively inexpensive method it is preferred by small scale producers of CBD and THC oils. During extraction this method uses solvents like butane, ethanol and alcohol derived from grains. This method has several disadvantages the worst of which is potential of explosion while the second is leftover residue of these solvents. Scientists and doctors advice against the use of this method as it can make the end product unsafe for medical use and also can make existing medical condition much worse. When there are unsafe residues in CBD oil it reduces healing powers and can even compromise health of patients.
Extraction of cannabis oil with grain alcohol
This method yields medicinal grade CBD oil of around two to four grams for each flower. With grain alcohol there is minimal residue and impurities in the oil that should be consumed directly instead of vaping or smoking.
CBD oils for electronic cigarettes
Only high grade CBD oil is used for manufacture of e-liquid or vaping oil that is used in electronic cigarettes. The vaping liquids used in both disposable and non disposable electronic cigarettes are made as compounds with CBD oil, alkaline e-liquids, vegetable glycerin, flavors and also nicotine to give smokers the feeling of a real cigarette. But buyers of e-liquid refills should read the details of ingredients on the bottle of e-liquid to ensure that they are not using synthetic ingredients like propylene glycol or formaldehyde.
The CBD oil that is extracted from these methods is thick in consistency unlike e-liquids which is used in e-cigarettes for vaping. It can be purchased in pure form from medical stores or online for use as topical medicine or in specific doses for health problems as advised by doctors.
